Why is it that the bible cannot spell anything normal? Example, taken from the Lord's Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

As Clanad has said the language and grammar is perfectly accurate for 1611, the date for the King James Authorized Version.

 Since that time however there have been at least 18 new versions, so if you want a Bible in modern English choose the Good News, or the New International Version.

thou art is the second person singular, and you are is the second person plural which is now universally used in English.

The same change occurred in America as well England. ANd was just about complete by 1680. We know this because comtemporary plays make fun of country folk using thou and thee, so by that time the words had dropped out of use.

Most of the King James new testament dates from Tyndale's translations of 1525,

and Coverdale did the first five books of the old testament (pentateuch) around the same time.

The King James bible was translated by various professors divided into teams (London Oxford and Cambridge) adn Boyes for one kept a diary. So we even know what they were thinking whilst they were doing it.

Akshly, the Authorised / King James bible of 1611 was deliberately written to sound archaic even then.  The style of language used is more like the speech of the 1530s rather than the 1610s, and the language was changing rapidly at the time due to the Great Vowel Shift and the Great Pomposity Disaggregation (I made up the second bit).
