router cable

Hi i have a router downstairs and 2 cables running from it to 2 pc's upstairs, i have got another pc and was wondering if i could connect it to the router without running another cable upstairs? can i use a hub of some sorts on 1 of the cables to split it in to 2?and if so is it fairly easy

you only ever needed one cable running upstairs..

get a small 4port network switch, they are really cheap (less than 10quid if you shop about) put it upstairs, plug one cable from the router into it and all the cables from the computers into the other ports on the switch and all will be good.

the computers can still talk to each other at the same speed and although all 3 will be using the one cable going down the stairs for the internet, your internet connection will probably be at least 10 times less than that cable can handle.

chuck is absolutely right (looks like a decent switch too!)

however - just to see
I've been running two PCs over 1 feed cable for months now.
used bw/wb and bnw/wbn for machine 1
ow/wo and gw/wg for machine 2
terminated to a double socket .... works a propper treat it does and no mistake guv

I get on average 62Mb/s between the two machines
and 79Mb/s to the server

against the rules ... but shortish run .... and no problems
