May I suggest that the Editor deletes maybe 15,000 of the old answers in the crossword section. This may help to speed up the process of searching for answers/clues. I am fairly sure that there is no-one has to go back this far in time for answers to relevant/current clues.

that is certainly a positive idea tom, (or jerry)
There's also about 21,000 superfluous threads in ChatterBank.
the ed can delete all 1009 of my questions i'm not bothered, wouldn;t like him to zap my answers on genealogy, but i;ve 20.000 or so that could go lol
Are they by any chance posted by a person called Leg kempie?

I generally protest when someone starts talking about deleting questions and answers just because they're old - this is, after all, an answer bank - but removing old crossword questions seems like a very good idea. How say you, Q&P users, would there be any downside to that? Would be marvellous if it could actually speed things up a bit around here!
I think that's an excellent idea as far as Q & P is concerned.
Hopefully it would make a difference if some of the Q&P questions and answers were deleted and speed thing up. I have found the site very slow the last couple of days and at times wasn't even able to post a question or give an answer. Surely by the end of the week most of the current crosswords have been answered and then they are of no further use - perhaps take it to 2 weeks.
I can't see any downside to that happening.
It sounds like a sensible idea in theory, (as does kempie's suggestion re cb :o)), but this is a very big site, would it really make that much difference to the annoying speed problems?
A good suggestion (as is Kempie's!!)

Thank you for all the replies and positive comments, let's hope that something is now done by the Editor to speed things up.
In reply to Swedeheart:- Yes, it is an answerBANK, but only when the search facilities work!
Thank you again.
