Below is a message I get when 'Send & Receive' in Outlook Express through Virgin Media. Can anyone help me in what to do to clear this error?

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'j MCLAUGHLIN', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

pretty sure virgin doesn't support SSL connections.

Click on the tools menu, then accounts, then double click the virgin mail account, then click the advanced tab and make sure there are no ticks in the boxes that say use SSL encryption. Click OK a few times and try again.
Assuming it has all been working OK before, then my only guess is that Virgin mail is down at the moment (maybe just for your area).

See if you can find out on the Virgin media web site, under support or status or something like that.
I'd be prepared to bet that simply deleting your email account, and then re-creating it, will fix the problem. (Deleting the account only removes the connection settings. Any existing mail in your Inbox, or elsewhere, won't be affected).

Go to Tools > Accounts. Click on the 'Mail' tab. If you've only got one email account it will probably already be highlighted. Otherwise click on the relevant account to highlight it. Click on 'Remove'. Click 'Yes'.

Now click on Add > Mail. Then follow the instructions (starting from Step 4), here:

(NB: After Step 5, you need to click the 'Next' button, at the foot of the page, for the rest of the instructions).
