My girlfriend is unemployed and is signing on. I want us to go on holiday, can she sign on elsewhere in Europe? Or is she allow to take a holiday and still get her money?
I agree with dzug,
She is allowed a certain amount of holiday whilst signing on.
Ask the DWP for the form.
However, this holiday MUST be in the UK so she is available to return (quickly) should a vacancy arise.
She may risk going abroad and not telling the DWP,but if found out her benefit would probably cease permanently, and she might even be required to refund some of the previously paid benefits.
No
Reg 19(1)(p) of the JSA Regs does allow for a claimant to be away from home (on holiday) for up to 14 days, on the basis that they allowed to be treated as actively seeking work, although they must still be available for work. However, JSA entitlement is still normally dependent on the claimant being in GB (sec 1(2)(i) Jobseekers Act 1995). Regulation 50 of the Jobseekers Allowance Regs does allow for some exceptions to this for varying numbers of weeks where someone is temporally absent from GB. These are also summarised on page 639 of the current CPAG Handbook, but none of the exceptions are as "straightforward" as a claimant being on holiday.
Like i said
do what most folk do.Get someone to sign on for you when youre away.its really quite common. And i imagine a great deal of folk do get away with it.
The Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) would be payable only if she were going outwith Great Britain for a job interview and then only for a maximum of one week.
