Laws on copying a website

lets say you right click on the side of this page and click 'view source' then saved it and used it to build your website that was exactly the same as this one. Are you breaking any laws? I have found out how to make a phishing site doing this which is very easy. Also as it is so easy to obtain the html code this way is there a way of obtaining the code for php or javascript?

You r supposed to ask permission on using HTML codes from another site - can't see how it could be enforced.

You can't use the same domain as it has been allocated out on registration & purchase.

Any javas or pics on internet can be copied. Once you put something in a public arena that's a risk the owner takes.

ok cool. so lets say i wanted to put something on my website similar to the 'recent posts' on AB. is there a way of copying it and changing a few details so it updates back to my server at home? i think it is php they have used on this site.

Copying the source from this site (or any site that uses dynamic pages) will not provide you with the means to build a web site. For example, if you view the source for this page, you will see the text of your own question. But that is not what exists on the server. The page is generated dynamically by quering a database, locating the questions and answers and replacing the quesry code in the page with the actual text.

If you were to create a web page using the source from here, yo0u would just end up with a static page with your own question and our answers on it!

And yes, you need to ask permission to use someone else's code or you are guilty of theft.
Even the questions and answers on here are automatically copyrighted under the Berne Convention. Herein lies the danger of copy & pasting stuff from somewhere else into answers, it is not AB who owns the Q/A but each contributor.

the html and javascript are available in the source code. no way of seeing the php unless the answerbanks webserver fouls up.

If you want to mess around with spoofing a website may i suggest include and str_replace
