If anyone else watches Jeremy Kyle, do you need to put the subtitles on, like I do?

Funnygirl, I just find it so difficult to understand what the contestants on there say, it's the only way I would ever get what was going on. Thank goodness for subtitles.
I know what you mean, especially if they've got an accent!!!!
I rarely watch it, but when I do I can't understand most of the guests. It's not as bad as the fools on Jerry Springer. That's more or less a series of bleeps. ;-)

bit sad watching that tw*t
I rarely watch it but if it happens to be on tv while I am around then I can safe;y say I have never had a problem understanding the guests.

Does that make me a pikey?
No, Natalie, it makes you a very intelligent, well rounded person who can understand people from all walks of life ;o)
Natalie, get ready for some sad pedantic git to come on and nasally whine that "...Pikey is racist because it refers to Irish travellers blah blah blah de ******* blah.............."

I love the term pikey - it it just so much better than 'chav', and in fact 'round these 'ere parts pikey has been used for chav long before the word 'chav' achieved national familiarity.

All, ALL, the scummy underclass that appear on Kyle are pikeys.

However, I love it. I had last Friday off work and it was brilliant. 50 year old pikey shagging a 17 year old pikey - 17 year old pikey was only 50% sure 50 year old pikey was the father of her pikey child, which he was.

Fantastic.

It is a great way of observing pikey scum without having to run the gauntlet of visiting them in their natural habitat of a sink estate.
What is the origin of the word 'pikey?'

I know an old man who swears blind it means gypsy or traveller. He hates them, so he uses that word a lot. I've always found it amusing coming from him.
I take it to mean 'traveller', but wouldn't include Romany Gypsies - although I think the barriers between are not defined. Not the same as chav at all. I haven't time for either.

I would define the Jeremy Kyle brigade as Chav's in the main.

Nobody on here sticks to the subject - returning to subtitles!!

What's Jeremy Kyle?
I do too, otherwise I wouln't understand the context of it!. Many of the guests the scope of their vocablary is goes little beyond abuse and profanity.
However in saying that, if you can lipread its clearly see the swearing and abusive words being said. As also set subtitles for Trisha
