A bit like saying what is the origin of the English 'my fault' though that would have more of an origin what with English being a newer language. I guess, ultimately, everything goes back to 'UG' ; unless your suggesting that it was a Latin catchphrase chanted in Forums or something like 'Romanes Eunt Domus!'.

Not one of the earlier questions about 'mea culpa' asked about its origin. In fact, it ORIGINATED as a phrase in the prayer of confession in the Latin liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. The individual words are, of course, Latin, but - as a recognised phrase - it first appeared within an English context in the 13th century. Is that what you were looking for Shimshon?
