what type of clothing should you wear when dealing with food

well something you should NOT wear when preparing and dealing with food, is fluffy jumpers, cardigans etc as they can easily shed fluff and bits into the food. I suppose this idea could be carried on to include items of clothing with beads and sequins in case they drop off unnoticed into the food. Obviously whatever clothing is worn should be clean and practical ie no long trailing sleeves. A hat could possibly be worn, it depends if you are talking about a domestic or commercial setup. If the person dealing with the food has long hair, it should be tied back if not covered.

I agree with Jules, it depends where you're working (exact environment) but it could involve:

hat
hair net
plastic gloves
white coat or similar
apron

I think it's better to wash your hands than to wear gloves.

Piercings should sometimes be covered up as well.

Often earrings are stricted to plain studs and other piercings on show removed or covered (eg nose, eyebrow piercing) in case they fall in the food.

Heavy perfume is not good either or jewellery other than stud earrings and maybe a wedding ring (somewhere I worked stated this).
