Now that Burns day is over and we can all forget the disparaging remarks made by our English cousins about not being able to understand the language he spoke - is there any way that they they should be forced to read Chaucer (the father of English Language - so we're told) - Burns read Shakespeare and Chaucer - the other two couldn't read.

The Husband, being part Scottish, didn't celebrate Burns Night. Think the Glen Spey got to him before he even had chance to start!! : (

Well yes, but then...a lot of people aren't Irish, but they still celebrate St. Patrick's Day. well, you've got to have an excuse, haven't you! Haven't you?????

brendan behan and semus heaney are great but you can't beat synges playboy of the western world.

Maybe we should start a poetry club??

I've read it Steve, but it was a long time ago now. If I remember rightly, I found it quite hard going. Even so, he's one of the what I'd call more "modern" poets. I prefer the older stuff, tbh. Out of even MORE modern poets, I like the quirkiness of Spike Milligan!
