I remember loving these in the past when I went to TGI Fridays ... does anyone have a tried and tested recipe I can use to make one in my new smoothie maker please?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.At least here in the U.S., one would need malted milk powder, which is a combination of wheat flour, non-diastatic malt flour, and powdered milk. This gives the distinctive malted flavor as opposed to standard milk shakes.
A good recipe would be then to simply add 2 tablespoons (about a palm full ) of malted milk powder to 1 or 2 ounces of any flavor of "fountain syrup" (vanilla, strawberry or chocolate) to 3 or 4 scoops of similarly flavored hard frozen top of the line ice cream and 1-1/2 to 2 cups of ice-cold milk, then blend till thickly pourable...

Ovaltine .... it's one and the same .... have just finished the most beautiful malted milk-shake .... fabulous:
3 heaped teasspoons Ovaltine
250ml skimmed milk
2 scoops low fat icecream
a few chocolate sprinkles
Blitzed in the smoothie maker - fabulous ...... might have to have another one later ... with Baileys in it!!!! xx

Ewww! Even allowing for differences in tatse habits between the U.S and Britain, there's a great deal of difference between Ovaltine and malted milk powder...
Ovaltine contains barley and malt extract, dried skimmed milk, sugar, whey powder, glucose syrup, vegetable fat, full cream milk powder, fat reduced cocoa, caseinates, egg powder, emulsifier, stabilisers, flavouring and vitamins ( and who know what else). A Malted milk shake has tp contain malted milk shake powder... the difference in taste would be striking to say the least...
