i just now picked up the reciever of my house phone and got a message to say.....congrajulations u have just won a trip to the carribean.,,,obviously a scam of some sort. maybe they will take money out of my bill ,i dont know..what should i do?

These scams are common. If it happens again, just put the phone down. They are just arecorded messages (and usually the accents are American).

Just ignore it, as Ethel says.

Actually Panic you are very nearly right. In all probability you have won, but in order to benefit from your prize you have to attend a time-share lecture, take your holiday in time-share apartments and be escorted by a time-share agent everywhere you go with pressure to sign up at every turn. As prizes go it is the pits and to add insult to injury it is not open to anyone over 60. As everyone has said, just hang up.

In order to win a trip to the Carribean, you would have to enter a competition of some sort. If you know you haven't entered any such competition then it's a scam to try and get you to part with your money.

I get these kind of calls regularly. The worst thing is, so does my elderly mother. These scammers are preying on vulnerable people.

Before my mother went into a care home she would have taken these calls seriously. She didn't even realise that they were recorded messages either!

Just to add my bit about Time-share. I must admit you do stay at lovely appartments wherever you go, but due to ill health I sold mine about 5-6 yrs ago and almost every day since I have had phone-calls asking me if I wanted to sell my Time-share. It`s driving me NUTS----NUTS I TELL YOU.......ARRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrg. They`re coming to take me away to a nice little ward to-morrow, heh heh heh mummy.
