ccj's?
16 Answers
Hi All Im looking for some advice please. I ran up quite a few debts to different companies when I was younger and I couldnt afford to pay so Im ashamed to say I moved and didnt inform them of my address. All the debts were unsecured and the last time I had contact with them was Jan 2003. I have never been able to afford to pay them off so have never got a credit report as they would be able to find my new address. The problem is I have no idea if any of them have ccjs against them. As i am approaching the 6 year mark were debts can become statute barred I need to know which ones this applies to. I have never recieved a court summons due to them not knowing my address. Yesterday I got a letter from Mackenzie Hall asking me to contact them. This was as my boyfriends house and I have nothing in my name there. What should I do? Do I ignore them or get him to say I dont live there. Im too scared to get a credit report or anything as you need to submit your current address and then they will all find me before the 6 years.I am really worried so any advice would be great thanks.

They have done their homework and must know where you live so I wouldn't lie and say you don't live there. You can probably arrange a monthly repayment, your local CAB will be able to help you come to agreement on how much you have to owe. Don't ignore it or it may get worse.
The only thing I can think of is that a few months ago I asked my work to send something to do with Shares to that address. I wonder if they have got it from that?
I am concerned that if he calls or emails to say I dont live there like it says on the letter, will they then say he shouldnt of opened the letter addressed to me and take action against him for DPA? I have recieved 3 letters now in 5 days!!

They are very persistant, they could have got your address from anywhere. Are you on the electoral role or have you applied for anything on the internet??
Does it say how much it is and where the debt is from? I've heard of them taking money off people without providing proof of the debt, when I asked for proof they would not send me anything so make sure you ask for all appropriate paperwork if you hold your hands up to it.

I would ignore the letters and not respond, thats way your not saying either way whether you are connected to someone at that residence or not.
Or you could sent them back saying 'no longer at this address.'
I would do the first option first though, because the longer you delay them 'possibly' finding you the better if you say 'no longer at this address' they might search other avenues or they will 'smell a rat' and poke further to find out from your bf where u are.
I have never heard of this firm are u sure it about debts and not the shares info or something similar??

Well said, pay your debt, anyway im sure you didnt tell your creditors you moved address so Stat of limitations doesnt work anyway.
more time working to pay your debt and less time trying to work out how to screw the system (but not vey well).
this could result in your debt being paid and people having a bit of respect for you.
