Telephone calls from your bank

I was away last week but Mr Thug ang me to say that there had been a message left by a named person from our bank with an 0800 number. I only had access to my mobile but I rang the number and asked to speak to the named person who was not available. The person who did answer the phone asked me security questions which I refused to answer. She insisted that it was the bank but how do I know. The 0800 number could be anyone. She was quite put out when I refused. I told her that I didn't want anything from the bank so they must want to speak to me and if that was the case they ccould write to me. Needless to say I've had no letter and that was a week ago. How annoying is that? I get a marketing call and not only have to pay so they can probably try and sell me something but they want to put me through security as well. Rant over.

Why did you bother ringing them? They'd have rung back if it was important.

My Hubbie gets annoyed with these sort of calls.. He had Vodafone call him on his mobile.. to promote or sell something or other.. and they proceeded to ask him his name, address etc etc and he refused.. he said that they could be anyone.. and if they were genuinly Vodafone - then they should know his details already since he has a contract with them.. You have to be soo careful who you give info out to... just not worth it!

Nosha - You should never ever give security information to someone who calls you. They could be anyone. Make them answer some security questions for you before you agree to speak to them!!

If i answer the phone and then they ask for my details I always say they should know who i am cos they rang me and i never answer their questions. They may only be doing their job but they can be very silly and niaive sometimes if they think people are stupid enough to just answer them

I refused to answer the security quesions but the lass kept on saying it was the bank. Right, but they gave me the number to call and you're right, it could have been anyone. So why was the lass so surprised when I refused to answer? It's really not good enough is it? I did get a letter from the bank yesterday so the call was genuine but I had no way of knowing that. Why can't they agree a reverse security question?
