What currency should I take to the Dominican Republic?

Although their national currency is the Dominican Peso, being an American I find they seem to prefer the U.S. dollar. They will exchange anything you have though.

Hi Clanad. Thanks for the reply. From the UK perspective though i.e. the rubbish exchange rate at the moment, would I be better converting sterling to peso? Or sterling to US dollar? I was thinking of maybe taking enough dollars for the visa charges in and out , and then a little extra in dollars and the rest in pesos - about �250 in total. I wont be taking that much as we are staying in an all inclusive resort.

Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Using the converter link, I find that 100 Dominican Pesos equals $2.80 (U.S. dollars) whereas the same 100 pesos only equals 2.08 Pounds Sterling. It appears (remembering the favorable, in your case, exchange rate Pounds to Dollars) that perhaps the best route would be to change your Pounds to Dollars then to Pesos...

it's been a long time since I went, but you couldn't take pesos in or out of the country. we changed to US dollars, then changed to pesos when we got there.

if you get to Sosua beach say hi from me.. it was beautiful :o)

My sister went last year and took American Dollars she then changed them into domincan pesos over there think she got a better rate
