I was watching an episode of - ' Entrada ' - Journeys in latin american cuisine ( hosted by the lovely Roanna ) .
Anyway I was amazed to see an item on a vineyard , where they were making wine by , by treading on the grapes to crush them
Given that the part of the human body that harbours the most germs is between the toes - ( quite apart from any cuts etc that people may have on their feet ) why is this unhygienic method still adopted ?
Well it's been done throughout the ages Berti, and we've never heard of anyone contracting any hideous disease because of it. Perhaps the fermentation process removes such bacteria???
Eeeewwww, though........
The grapes are all going mouldy anyway so a bit more bacteria won't hurt. The alcohol will kill off anything harmful. Saying this I don't like Latin America wines much and keep to the french wines (not allowed to tread them here due to EU regulations)
