leaving your lazy husband
8 Answers
My daughter wants to move out of the marital home due to problems. She earns good money and pays all the household bills etc. If and when she does move out, just what bills must she pay in order to keep an interest in the property. Bearing in mind her husband claims the dole but puts no money into the household what so ever. thanks. George

I went through this situation about three years ago. If at all possible she needs to get HIM to leave- that would be the best bet- In my case he wouldn't go! So I did. The mortgage was in joint names and so I had to pay my half. I contacted the council on his behalf to arrange the single person discount for him so i was no longer liable for council tax. All other bills are payable by the person in the house- but if he is on the dole it could cause problems if he doesnt pay. But then again it's not your daughters problem anymore if she goes.
I left- paid half the mortgage till the house was sold- then filed for divorce which came about 4 months later. It's a lot easier than she would ever imagine- actually saying you are leaving and meaning it is the hardest part- not the actual leaving and what happens after.
