hi everyone my Question is, how many types of tax are there  Apart from the obvious Council, Vat Petrol ,Cigs. and how are they used .to benefit the general public. Honest answers only no politicians.?

CGT or capital gains tax - on investment gains. Your pension fund is now taxed on income generated by the investments within it, IHT or inheritance tax - when you die and your estate is worth over �270k or so. Road tax on your car, import duty tax if you buy goods from abroad (eg you buy a digital camera from Hong Kong on ebay and customs notice it), income tax on your bank savings, fuel tax, heating tax, . By the way did you know why many digital camcorders only have DV out? It is a simple thing to include DV in but the manufacturers get taxed more on the goods. Beer, wine, spirits, cigarettes -

plus landfill tax, stamp duty, withholding tax, excise tax (alcohol, tobacco, fuel etc), other import taxes (anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, CAP levies, Minimum Import Prices, all on specific imported goods), road fund licence, Corporate Income Tax, (betting tax on wagers has been abolished because of the internet but is there still duty on fruit machines??), National Insurance,

There are thousands of taxes or levies that are government stemed - do you mean all taxes?? - Do you really care??
