Entirely depends on the pattern of use.
For occasional short journeys, the former.
For longer journeys there and back in a day, the latter.
Maybe use your last quarter's pattern to assess the equivalent cost if you had hired.

If they are long journeys they will always be overnight....very variable pattern, also looking at leasing one vehicle for such long journeys, might this be better?
