Frenchies are going for about 1500 - 2000 a time, so no doubt some people are breeding just to make money.
Our Heelers are up by 12 on last year, our problem is an eye problem which we are waiting for a DNA test for, then people will start breeding again. Most litters these days are bred by 'pet' people who don't take the eye problem seriously, then those of us who do get the blame for the breed having problems.
One of the people who started the Vulnerable Breed Group has Dandies, I love their big eyes. They want people to breed to help save them from extinction, but of course they
don't want people just to breed for money, but for the good of the breed. They actually have people wanting them, but there are so few puppies about.
I think the days of the big dogs have gone, most people want something smaller and therefore cheaper to feed etc.
You have to be a real enthusiast to take on a big dog these days.
