I would like help to earn some kudos as this type of riddle leaves me cold
The gist of the question is how do you cross a 10 foot wide moat when you only have a 9 foot plank and a 1 foot plank and without anything touching the water
Many Thanks

If it's a trick question the answer could be to use the drawbridge.

Hi mrs mop
I don't think it is a trick question
It apparently appeared in a Daily Telegraph booklet about training your brain and the planks were measured in metres not feet
If you could put the short plank across the corner of the has to be square moat and castle .This would shorten the distance so the nine foot plank set on the shorter plank should reach the other side and safety .

Hi weecalf
Many thanks for your suggestion which should do the trick

it might help if you had the correct question.

At its narrowest point , the castle moat is 10m and you have only 2 planks 1m x 9m and no means to join them.
How can you use the 2 planks to cross moat ? (the planks
must not touch the water) As written in telegraph book
What if the 9metre plank was attached to the 1 metre plank in such a way as to create a 'springboard' over the moat ?
