cd/dvd drive

I have a sony laptop VGN-FS115S with 80G HDD.
the CD|DVD side will not read a disk, don't know why. as I resently formatted the HDD to get rid of all the old junk I had on it useing the setup diskes supplied,
Everything else works okany ideas on this??

Check the Sony site for the latest drivers for the CD/DVD drive, and also check in Device Manager to see if it is there/listed as having problems.

Did that and still no go, I have a deeling it ********, the CD/DVD just will not read at all no matter what I do.

What does it say if you click on cd/dvd drive in device manager?

it nothing in the drive,. in divice manafer it just tells me that the divice is working corectly, it does try to read the disk, then gives up.
The drive may have gone. You could try physically removing it (usually best to power the laptop down) and refitting it. If you're really lucky it might just be an iffy contact.
