A bit of light relief - Come Dine with Me

I've been watching this for the past couple of days, and can hardly believe what I'm seeing. Five complete strangers going to each others homes for dinner over the course of five nights - and it's disastrous. I would never subject myself to something like this, so my question is, would you?

I don't think it is for me (not that good a cook) but I have been watching it too. Find it quite interesting and always like to see the outcome - why do you think it is disasterous?

I'm finding it fascinating. Quite a social experiment. The first night produced bad feeling - and last night's dinner ended totally miserably, didn't you think? One man seems to be intent on causing trouble - and he's certainly succeeding. I would hate to have him at my table.

i think I am watching different one than you at the moment - i did not get to see the early evening one it was later on and there were only 4 people involved - they were actually all quite friendly by the end of the night. I quite like circulating and meeting with new people but I think to have them to my house and sit all evening with them would be difficult!

I know this was meant probably to be a deep thinking thread but I cant take it that way -I just laugh most of the time -i'm hooked lol.

I wonder if there could be repercussions. Bernard is quite clearly mentally unstable and I wouldn't want him either in my home or knowing where I live.

I love the series and have enjoyed it from the very first episode, but this had never crossed my mind before Bernard.

Joannie -Dawn left before the end of the night -there has been friction between her and Bernard.In fact he has been downright rude.Think she was tired and nervous as its her turn tomorrow night.

Does anyone think the voiceover guy is just hilarious -I keep meaning to see who it is as his voice is familiar.

No, Dris, it's not meant to be a deep thinking thread - as I said, it's a bit of light relief. I just wondered if anyone here would ever consider doing something like this. I've no idea where that woman's accent comes from - and I don't like to be unkind, but her mouth with all that bright lipstick reminds me of something out of Wallace & Gromit. Maybe she should go for a more subtle colour. I can't stop laughing. I think I'm hooked too.

Don't know, Ethel. It wouldn't surpise me. He's a really nasty piece of work. He definitely has some very serious hang-ups. I wouldn't go within a mile of him.

He is absolutely obnoxious, isn't he, but I was surprised at her behaviour tonight. She went home halfway through the meal without a word to anyone. I thought that was incredibly rude.

What a show.

The beauty of it is that the whole idea of formalised 'dinner parties' is badly dated - they're for grasping social climbers, which is why they pretty much died out in the 80s. The contestants end up looking incompetent or smarmy. Great telly.

Just picked up this thread, so way behind the times. Watched Come Dine ... for quite a while now on and off. Think it's great TV when you want to watch people doing/saying things that you're glad you didn't do/say!! I think Dave Lamb's voiceover has got progressively funny over time. He has matured! Valerie was really quite strange, sorry Valerie. Dawn was a total p*sshead. Bernard was too, couldn't handle his drink and then threw his dolly out of the pram because he wasn't the centre of attention - as if he ever could be, quite an obnoxious character. Can't remember the name of the guy who hosted on the first night, didn't think I was going to like him but he surprised me, I thought he was fabulous.
