Down under the Gov has a policy of jobs being offered to Aussies first and if they can't fill it then it can be offered to other races.

Do you think that would be a good policy for UK?

yes I do, States has a similar policy for work visas they have to prove that a US citizen cant do the job first, of course there are ways round the problem but in general its a very good idea.
