I'm going to visit my son in the USA soon. Can I select music from his itunes and load them onto my ipod or will it wipe all my music off?

Basically Yes. Im not sure about in the future since they are now selling DRM Free tunes. But at the moment if you plug your iPod into someone else's iTunes it will ask you if you want to remove the current songs from your iPod in order to use the songs it has in iTunes. Basically if you want others songs you will have to find a way of doing it illegally. If that makes sense.
