How can I get this replaced?I've lost my receipt.

I bought two jansport rucksacks from bag shop in 2002. The were very expensive, costing about 150 for both. The reason I spent so much was because they had life time guarantees. The guy in the shop told me that even if just one zip one the bag broke, I could get a new bag. Now the time has come. The shoulder strap is coming apart, and it will get worse over time. However, I lost my receipt during a house move. I went to the shop, and understandably the guy didn't remember me. He said that I should come back and give him the bag, he'll send it off and Jansport will repair it, all without proof of purchase. But I don't want it repaired, I want it replaced, which was the whole reason why I bought that particular bag in the first place. I do vaguely remember filling in some sort of form when I bought the bags.......Is it possible to ask the guy to find the form for me if i bring some I.D., or is there something else I should do to get the bag replaced?

Just a note to say: beware of "lifetime" guarantees. Some companies use this, and what they actually mean is the lifetime of the product NOT of the purchaser/owner!!! So when the product "dies" - the guarantee expires. Crafty, but true. I do hope this is not the case here - it looks like someone has already found your answer, I just thought I'd add that, FYI so to speak.
I would reiterate acw's post:
A lifetime guaranteee is not worth the paper its written on. It only covers the lifetime of the product. As an examaple, you could sell tissues with a lifetime guarantee. Once you have used the tissue to blow your nose, the 'lifetime' of the product is finished.
Also, did you happen to pay by card or cheque. If you did, there would obviously be proof of purhase there. It may take some time but you could get your bank to give you the details.
