I have one of those metal pole feeders and grease the bottom section with cheap Vaseline from Pound Shop, it is sited away from trees so squirrels can't jump onto it, the only way to access it is up the slippery pole, which it can't do so problem solved - the apples I spear onto the top of the pole for the parakeets always end up on the ground anyway once the starlings have had a go at them so the squirrels get those and the other feeding pole I have is near a fence and the squirrels can get to the fat balls on that one, although the seed feeders are metal and they have a bit of trouble with those. I wouldn't mind the squirrels just taking the food, but it's when they wreck the feeders to get to the food that I object.
