I Wonder Why This Number Is Rising So...

Anyone had this problem - windows fitted and 10 yr guarantee given, only guarantee is only for the person who had them fitted? we bought our house 2 yrs ago, and the doors and seals are in a terrible state, but we were told that because it wasn't our name on the contract, we aren't covered. So beware anyone thinking of selling - get all problems fixed now. Shoddy work and a shoddy contract/guarantee!!
Thanks!

However there may have been a period in which you should have notified them of new ownership, we moved into our house almost two years ago, and the guarantee for the coating on the house had to be transfered. But I'd argue with them, any good company should do it out of public relations.
I'd write to them once more, giving them the opportunity to play fair - and advise that if you've not received a satisfactory reply within 14 days, you will be contacting Watchdog and asking them to feature Safestyle's shoddy customer service, and wriggling out of the guarantee on their programme.
As for their adverts - don't get me started. They alone would convince me NEVER to use them !
Part of the process of buying a house includes your solicitor asking for any guarantees and service records for the property, and then arranging for those to be transferred from the seller into your name.
If your solicitor did not do this, or did not inform you that this could not be done for the windows, then you may have a claim against him or her.
Try contacting your solicitor in the first instance, to see what was agreed at the time of purchase. If they refuse to assist, then see another solicitor under the fixed fee arrangement to find out if it is worth suing the solicitors who acted for your purchase.
THank you all!! Will get on to the case asap - fingers crossed! All were great reading and v.helpful - I can't believe how many clever people are out there!!
Gilli - liked your comment about the adverts - they drive me crazy too - "I say you buy one, you get one free..." Somebody SHOOT that man (or preferably the person who hired him!) and put me out of my misery!!
