Why oh Why do Walkers venture out onto the fells and mountains of this country when they KNOW that bad weather is due. Some might say it's their right to walk wherever and whenever they like but having just heard of one death and another man missing in the Lake District today, you've got to question their sanity!! Plus putting the lives of the Rescue Services who have to turn out in these horrendous conditions to save or find them.
Any Walkers out there want to try to convince me they are not mad and irresponsible?
Hi chrissa1, I agree that it is very irresponsible to go hill walking in this weather. They not only put thier own lives in danger but the lives of the Emergency services.
It always annoys me when walkers like these & inexperienced rock climbers take risks, then expect the emergency services to 'put themselves out' to go & find/help them!
As a keen walker I can only agree! The number of times we have met people out for a 'walk' with totally inadequate footwear and clothing and with NO MAP. They are stupid. Even with a GPS unit you still need a map - they break down, as ours did last week. But we had a map, and we know how to use it. (compass too if we have to). Accidents happen, but when people are just plain stupid the emergency services should send them a bill.
