Got a letter from my rhumatologist on Thursday saying I had a vitamin D deficiency and to make an appointment with my GP so made an appointment for Tuesday morning.

Got another letter through this morning from my GP with a letter, printout about Vitamin D deficiency and a prescription!!!

Am very impressed!

Anyone else got fantastic service from our national health service?

My recent experience is the opposite im afraid to say. I went into hospital with a broken ankle in 4 places needed surgery, was placed on a ward that knew nothing about orthopeadics (no room on the ortho ward) so I was wandering around with a cast on when I should have been in bed with no weight through it. I then waited 6 days for the operation, had that & got plastered up etc... sent home with no help in terms of how to get around my average no disabled access house and shower with just crutches (even though I have a bad shoulder, cant support my weight well - which was explained). Then had my cast off, I am currently learning to walk with physio only to find my foot is now twisted to one side which is hindering my walking - as the physio pointed out to me last week. The nurses were very helpfull - no complaints there but I have found the whole experience so disheartening that I am looking into Bupa - so if I have an accident again I trust the way things will turn out. I will say that when I last saw the surgeon he did say he would rush me through to physio - I got an appointment the next day - which was very speedy so thats another good thing. Its nice to know they are getting some things right.

There's a lot of bad but lovely to have some things which are really really good too.

I have to say after sitting in a few city centre A&E departments on the weekend I have every admiration for the people who work there despite what they have to put up with.
I emailed my GP for an appointment on the Wednesday, saw him next morning.
Not urgent - just recurrent and heavy nose bleeds.
At the appointment, I booked my hospital consultation under the 'choose and book' scheme - for the following Tuesday!

Went to the hospital, nose cauterised there and then. All over in less than a week.
