'Dear John, Dear John, by the time you read these lines I'll be gone'

A boxed set VHS of series 1 & 2 was released but, as you say, a DVD appears never to have been made (except by unscrupulous sellers on eBay - I wonder if one of them is named Kirk St. Moritz).

i remember really laughing at this and sometimes when u see something again u hate it as it ages so badly!

all the characters were excellent in this

dazzling darrens disco - groovy !

Sadly, Ralph Bates died of cancer in 1991.
My first memories of Ralph Bates are in the classic Hammer Horror films where he met his 2nd wife Virginia Wetherell. His 1st wife was Joanna Van Gyseghem of 'Duty Free' fame.
A good, well written sit-com in my opinion. I thought kirks alter-ego was really funny, and  probably rings true in many cases of real life.

were there any .... sexual problems?

classic.

I was really young when this was on, but i remember an episode when an elderly lady was passing wind a lot and John was politely taking the blame for her little accidents.  She cracked another one off and Kirk shouts, YOU CAN HAVE THAT ONE ON ME, even as a child i thought that was brilliant.

It also got re-made in America but wasn't half as funny.

Loosehead, this BBC Website has a potted history of Dear John, and a couple of clips also.
