I've done that corner and it all fits nicely - entree - course during a meal - seems okay to me.

me too.....yet again it seems a problem with telegraph crossword online. It won't let me submit it because it thinks it wrong.

There is a bug in the way the crossword was transposed into the online version (its happened before). The reason the maximum score is only 580 is that it is impossible to finish the crossword, unless you use a hint to put the "blank" into the right place.

You could presumably submit the puzzle with a blank square there and get the 600 points. But without pre-knowledge nobody is going to do that.

Rollo, I don't think you can. I did have prior knowledge via BigDave, and trued space/blank etc they don't work. You seem to have to use the hint.
