Thank you all.
Thank you buildersmate I never thought of looking at the gov direct web site, should have done. I seem to have started a debate. I personally will now draw a line under it . It has been interesting reading all your answers, but just to make things clear, I was among a group of people when this was mentioned during the conversation, so I thought answerbank was a good place to ask the question.
Thank you all once again
Kind regards
Ray
There are advantages and disadvantages for every logical answer posted. I am one of those hard working tax payers who has worked all their lives along with my husband, I would like to feel proud that we have done this but also feel we have been mugs, because we have struggled and have got into debt to have the things in life like nice home and holidays etc. and now approaching 60 next year cannot afford to retire, but feel so tired of it all and badly needs to do so. I truly wish I had the courage to sell up and spend it and also see if I would be better off, it is so tempting, and yes also feel why not, when they are so many who have done it all their life. Young girls who have never worked but have been given a house because they are pregnant while my children struggle with mortgages and cant afford to give up work to have children, it makes you think who are the fools, us tax payers or the scroungers?
