Can anyone recommend a good product to enable me to transfer my old VHS tapes to DVD ? Presumably via the PC.
I have read poor reviews of the ION VCR to PC system.

I have a video player and a DVD recorder linked to my TV.
I put a VHS tape in the VHS player, and a blank DVD disc in the DVD recorder.
I then press Play on the VHS player and record in the DVD recorder and the DVD is created.
Even if you want to do editing of the video image it is much easier to get the image OFF a DVD onto your computer than to get the image off the VHS tape into your computer.
Note also that VHS or DVD video takes a HUGE amount of room on your hard disk so you need to make sure you have loads of hard disk space.

Yes VHG solution does work, I have just done this myself. The only problems I found were the length of time to record depending on whats on the tape. Also to set your DVD recorder in excess of the tape duration. Also if you are using DVD -R or +R its better to finalize these so that they can be read by a multitude of different players.
