If there is a prize for the best answer....I claim it!
On my honeymoon with the current Mr Overall, we asked the restaurant to surprise us with a local speciality.
Fruitbat stew looks and tastes as bad as you can imagine.
The bat was whole, complete with beady eyes and wings.
oh and i thought frogs legs were bad enough /...but there are far worse it seems....! Fruitbat stew Mrs O? Sounds like something from halloween! and eyeballs dusty???!!!!
Now nautilus I have to disagree frogs legs do not taste like chicken. ... at all! You're right about the bones though! I did not realise before I ate em that it is the entire bottom half of the torso that they serve. I don't mind tasting weird things but it was the texture that was gross!!
ah naomi - i have had an andouillette when over in froggieland...andi didn't find it too bad,,,,mind you I did wash it down with way too many glasses of cheap red so maybe that helped?
Brilliant! i know this question's been asked before, but the answers still make me smile.
For a dare, I ate raw tripe - which was horrible.
I love snails in garlic butter!
One of the worst things I ate was raw octopus in chocolate, at the Munich Beer Festival. When i saw the remains of a sucker in my hand, I could neither chew the stuff nor spit it out, because I froze on the spot. One swallow and it was gone, but the taste....disgusting!
Squid...was in portugal and love squid, so ordered it. When it came it was whole and still had all its insides and dozens of little squid eggs spilled out onto the plate when I cut it open. TOTALLY RANK! I have also eaten and enjoyed - octopus, crocodile, bison, and kangaroo.
Greendragon - I really admire your adventurous spirit! I like to try something "different" when I travel - it's all part of the experience. I ate jellyfish when we went to Borneo - they look (and taste) like rubber bands! I will forever regret not having the courage to order guinea pig when we visited Peru ...
