I buy a poisoned powder in a 'puffer' pack from the DIY store or garden centre and treat the entry area with that. Best time to do this is in the evening because the wasps are returning to the nest and are less active. As the wasps crawl over the powder, some sticks to them and they take it into the nest and spread it around. Otherwise get someone in as Obo says.
I once tried (and failed!) to get rid of a wasps' nest in my loft by using the sort of approach suggested by ipek. I had been recommneded this method by my ex-wife! I was told afterwards that this is a very dangerous thing to do as the wasps may swarm on to you if their nest is being threatened. And - I tried returning to the nest at 10 pm and the wasps were even more restless than they had been earlier in the day. Don't risk it - pay for someone else to do it, whatever it costs.
I managed to get rid of a wasps nest in my loft by using a pair of scissors and a carrier bag, but looking back i think i was very foolhardy and lucky not to get badly stung. Especially when i tipped it out onto my patio, sprayed petrol onto it and then threw on a match. They got the point though, haven't had any more nests built in my loft. Next time though, think i'll do as Obo says and call the proper authorities to deal with it. (i was young(er) and stupid(er)!)
