What STI can go undetected?
3 Answers
Strange question this, I'm writing a script for a Uni film, and was wondering if there are any Sexually Transmitted Infections that can go undetected and still passed onto new partners? When I say undetected, I mean that it may not be picked up in a standard STI check?

Also available is an optional blood test for HIV and Syphillis. Genital Herpes is one of the STI's that is incredibily common, yet it is not tested for at routine exam. Detection is by visible examination and PCR swab from active sores. Swabs can only be taken from active sores and sometimes will still be negative if sores are a few days old.

Good luck with the film, it would great to add herpes to the script as there is a lack of awareness and so much stigma attached to this but yet it is so common!

I forgot to mention... 90% of people infected with H do not know that they have it and either do not have symptoms or mistake it for minor irritations (itching etc). Also, there is assymptomatic shedding which is invisible and the virus can be passed on during this time unknowingly. Therefore, the virus can be passed whilst no symptoms are present!
