Princess Diana's butler not guilty
10 Answers
The case against Paul Burrell has been dropped, due to the Queen informing the court that Burrell had told her he was holding the Princess's possessions for safe-keeping, BEFORE he was charged with stealing them!!! Is anyone else wondering how she, and an openly ill-prepared prosecution allowed this case to happen?

I wondered the same thing Bob, it does beggar the question why was a prosecution brought on such patently flimsy evidence. This poor man has had his job taken away from him, and his good name ruined, for the sake of a 'trial by media' which seems increasingly to be the way the justice system is exercised in this country. Let's not pre-judge the John Leslie episode either, because in spite of what the papers say, he remains un-arrested, with no previous convictions. If he's guilty, then damn him, but let's make sure we get those two the right way round shall we!
The popular rumour on the scurrilous Popbitch.com (and I hasten to add it is only rumour, and caveat emptor very much applies to how much credence you choose to give it) is that some of the items it had been alleged Mr Burrell took contained correspondence that would have shown the royal family in a very very poor light indeed, and that the case was halted in order to stop this occurring. I think I'd better stop there before I commit a libel!
I think the whole thing smacks of a conspiracy. You have to admit from the details that the media have chosen to share with the general public portray neither Diana nor her family or the Royals in a particularly brillant light. I would almost wonder if perhaps the proceedings had been brought to a halt to spare what little remains of Diana's dignity and to spare her children further revelations.
Mrs. Windsor was not saving Burrell; that family have a long history of hanging out ex-servants to dry without mercy or support. The Merry Wife was merely protecting herself from more bad publicity surrounding the truly shocking way her family treated Diana, Princess of Wales.
It must be a source of bafflement to her that Diana was so popular. She can't see that a German woman married to a Greek sailor is never going to score over the home grown fairy tale!
