For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.do not pay anyone to do this for you firstly. It is free, albeit the cost of 2 or thereabouts to write or contact Experian or equifax, who will then send you your credit report. If you then check the info on this and you feel it is incorrect you can then notify either organisation to get it amended, or you have to contact the lender who should arrange this, providing it is all in order. If you look at www.experian.co.uk everything you need to know is there. But don't pay anyone to do it, it's costly and you can do it yourself all for free. Good luck!!
I agree - do it yourself - many of these firms that promise the world, either don't deliver or theyt get you to take out loans with them to pay off debts that are showing on your file - big mistake.
There are loads of thing you can do to improve though - first, join www.creditexpert.co.uk , which is the onlile division of Experian (one of the main agencies) - there is a 30 day free trial and then it is 49 for a whole year of interactive ability to check your file - its great and up to date. You can then go about repairing many things form your file - the various thing that you can do are -
- Lodge notice of dissasociation from anyone that has financial relationship with you on your file that should not be there
- Lodge nottices of correction of any entries that are incorrect - this is your chance to tell the prospective lender why this happened i.e. marriage breakup or redundancey
- You can apply to get CCJ's removed (perhaps only temporarily, but long enogh for you to have a clean slate to get a mortgage for instance) - see my answer in above question.
Good luck
