how to remove IE

sorry, mi last question made no sence!
i want to get rid of internex explorer from my computer send it to the land of no return etc because it gives me lots of popups and now i have made the switch to mozilla, i find IE a pain(it still gives pop ups when im not using it)!
IE does not show up in add/remove programs and i dont know what its called in win32 etc.
any help would be good

The simple fact is that if you want to keep using windows update (which I would strongly suggest you do), it would not be wise to get rid of IE (WU will not open in any other browser...lol) - but just in case you were interested, the program file (in windows XP) is \program files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe.

However, I use firefox as my main browser, but just keep IE on my drive as well - a good spyware removal regime will stop the pop-ups...

ok, another question then, if i did get rid of IE, would i be able to re-install it from the windows website?

As I have never uninstalled IE, I would not know the answer to this.

However, you can reinstall IE 6 at a later date if you managed to get rid of it. But getting rid of it is not a job for the faint hearted - it is very heavily integrated into windows...

Rather than trying to uninstall IE which is an integral part of Windows, follow the advice given here to get rid of pop-ups.

I can understand that you now want to get rid of ie, but honestly, dont. Just never use it again.

As yorks says, you need it for windows update. However, just go into windows update, and switch on automatic update. I think you can set it to update quite regularily, meaning to dont need to do it manually.

However, just a note....mozilla isn't any 'safer' than internet explorer, its just the hackers, spyware creaters, virus creaters etc see it as their number one target as it is so widespread. As mozilla and firefox get more and more popular, they will eventually get more and more problems of this nature, as the virus/spyware creaters turn their attention to it.

To remove it, its actually in Control Panel, add remove - Windows components - you can delete it there - to reinstall at a later date, just do the opposite (you will probably require your Disc).
