I have a Rover 400 and the heater blower thingy only works on number 3 or 4, and not on the lower settings. I know its the resistor that has blown, but garage will only sell me a new heater motor.
Maplins sell the resistor but only if I have the resistor rating, and I don't know what this is, can anyone tell me the resistor rating for Rover 416 blower motor please.
It's not a radio. It's the heater blower resistor.
I have been to Maplins but they say they cannot sell me one until I give them the resistor rating......................and I don't know what it is.
The resistance is low,but of a high wattage rating,it is an air cooled coiled wire. Rather go to a breakers yard and get one,it is located just behind the cubby hole.Easy to replace.
I know where it is and what it looks like and have taken old one to maplins to have it tested, but they don't know what the rating is so can't sell me one until I find out.
breakers yard one could also be faulty as I have been told it is a common fault, so prefer to buy new.
Thanks for your input anyway paddiez.
:-)
Don't give up on the breakers yard idea, look at the resistors carefully on yours first, you will see the thinnest coil is broken, cant be soldered, look for same on the one the one from the breakers,it's the only coil that breaks.
the info you want can be found on mg-rover.org forums, the value of the resistors appear to be 10 watts the three coils are different value's 1.5 ohm 0.68 ohm and 0.22 ohm these i believe are the nearest value's that you can buy from maplins, they sell repair kits on ebay which comes with instructions etc,for under 4.
A big thank you to everyone who answered.
Have been to maplins and bought 10 watt resistor and fitted in car and blower seems to be working ok......so far. Fingers crossed it will last.
It cost me 45 pence. cheap at twice the price!
:-)
paddiez is spot on.the part is olso called a rio-stat.theyre famous for going on no.1+2.civics and rover.drop the glovebox completely and replace the unit......remove connector blok,2 philips screws and out she comes.
