My dad came round today and told me he was going to grow some potatoes and onions in my gardens as my soil is very fertile. The trouble is my garden is a bit unkempt due to my fear of wormies but its also a cat toilet! Once my dad puts the pots and onions in how can I prevent the cats from doing their business in them? I don't want to do the litter tray thing again. Had enough trouble with that when I first got Tiggy and Bluey.

I know it sounds silly but put lots of cocktail sticks in the soil pointing upwards, they wont go near them once theyve pricked themselves once - either that or put some netting over it - it'll keep the birdies out then too. Cats also dont like lemon or peppermint so if your dads happy to - grow some mint plants there too or put some lemon halves down, they bio-degrade anyway so it wont litter!

I too have a fear of wormies - yuk! Did that West+ compost advert scare the pants off you like it did me???

Mothballs are a good temporary measure.

Thanks Moon,

The lemon thing sounds like a plan.

Yes it did and so does the McDonalds ad with the little red-haired girl holding one as well. Yuk yuk yuk!!!
Chop up very strong smelling onions ..
in the summer use hot curry powder .
We have 2 cats and they are wimps so
our garden is the local loo for others .
Talk about organic gardening!
Hiya tiggs,
could you use garden netting? Four sturdy pegs or a basic rectangular frame weighted down with netting nailed to it?

Shame I don't have a cow instead of 2 cats eh Panic!

Mothballs sounds good so does the onion / curry powder . I did tell my dad to use some netting Sachs but he dismissed it for some reason! I've seen the netting used in some allotments up near me so it looks lik a good option and will prevent the birdies swooping in from above.
her's some things that you can buy to stop cats using your garden.
