To everyone who asks a question in Q&P- please remember to say please or thank you , or, even better to say when asking a question. Also, please write out the full clue along with any letters you may have + number of letters to clue. The full clue makes a world of difference with receiving the correct answer, too. Yesterday there was a cryptic clue in the Lancelot(MOS) that someone half posted and many people gave the answer 'them' understably so too as only half the clue was typed by poster, yet, the actual answer was They- hidden in the clue itself ( baThe Yearly- They).
Many thanks in advance -for in the future posting the full clue, number of letters + for being polite ;-) Bless each one of you puzzlers this Monday morning, too! (i)
Warmest wishes, Beatrice :-)

Well if that works I shall also ask that for quizzes

say what quiz the question is from - not local that means nothing
give exact number of the question on the sheet

Wont mention not asking too soon lol

but I think we both know that no matter how politely you ask things wont change
Question Author
Meant to have said say please or thank you or even better to say both :-)

May not make many changes yet if one person is more polite and prints the full clue it will make a difference . No matter how small a difference, better than none at all.

It is most frustrating when only half a clue is printed especially with cryptic + only those who have completed the crossword know the correct answer. Yet, what bugs me more than anything is when people forget their manners as was raised correctly- have good etiquette. Believe the world would be a far lovelier place if everyone said a please + thank you + it costs nothing. Best things in life are free :-)

Agree with your point too smouse- say the exact location of prize puzzle too- what local paper or whether it is The Scottish Mail, The Irish Mail or the standard Daily Mail, for example. Takes little effort to type in those extra few words yet makes it clearer for everyone.

Many thanks :-)

Warmest wishes, Bea :-)
It was about 3 years ago when Aquagility persuded the then editor to alter the wording of the notice above the question box. The basic requirements for each question are now clear to everyone.

As far as I can see it has made no difference at all. The please and thank you's should be common courtesy but alas....

From my experience Sunday is by far the worst day.

Agree with you Kayakamina about Sundays being the rudest of days with posters + Aquagility always impresses me in more ways than one anyhow, yet, all us polite individuals need to keep making a point for politeness even if it does fall on deaf ears as manners cost nothing yet make a big impact :-)! So will continue with this soapbox issue of politeness + posting full clue.

Warmest wishes to you smouse + to Kayakamina- always good to see your names here :-) :-) Angel hugs (i) (i) to you both (i) (i)

Thank you guys for your contribution, too ;-)

Bea :-)
Some things are implicit in the family
I was brought up to adhere to certain standards and dare I say that 'not to cheat ' was one of them.
No I daren't say it.

Have never cheated either at anything+ this is also an important point Talullah, so thanks for this input. Sometimes, when posting an answer it does not show up as anyone has posted yet by the time your answer comes through sometimes you maybe 3 or 4th in the list yet were unaware of anyone else answering the post. Politeness is what this thread is about- costs nothing to say please or thank you. Was raised with good manners just as the poster Wired was yet everyone regardless of their background can say please or thank you- no excuse for poor manners. Thanks everyone here for joining in, too!
Warmest wishes, Bea :-)
Good morning all.
None of this should need saying. And I, too, think it is unlikely to make a scrap of difference. Of course we could each keep a black list, but unless we all did it.........
And why, I wonder, did the editor print my notes on Q&P, but not on Crosswords?
Finally, don't let it spoil your day, Bea!
I always say please and thank you, when asking,
if I am pushed for time I give three stars to let those
who have answered ~ just to let them know, and then I later write
a thank you, always have done don't need to be
told. I keep pointing out that peole should put all
the info they have up and in one post
My sentiments entirely!! Other annoying issues include those who clearly cheat by such means as asking for last two answers (no letters or number of letters) and a short time later ask for, say, three more!! One regular SE predator submits a shopping list with just clue numbers and, on a good day, partial questions. The answers arrive en bloc!! No objection to those genuinely stuck. Most need help at sometime (except, say, LIK & Tyrepill !!) and this user-friendly, well-run site ,accessed by friendly people is here to assist. I love helping the genuine and greatly appreciate help from others as a means of expanding knowledge. Play the game, everyone.
I completely agree that people should say thank you if someone helped them get a correct answer. As for not putting the full clue, or number of letters, or what letters they have, I couldn't care less. I just ignore their request. If they are stupid enough to think people can answer without these requirements, then they do not deserve any help.
It's a shame that people need prompting to say please and thank you and to have good manners. It should come naturally without even thinking and be genuine.

Agree with you Totterdown and rinkins especially :-)
From now on, will only answer questions to those whom are polite too ;-) Opened a shop door for a lady with a pushchair earlier- she did not even bother to say thank you or even smile! Yet, when was kind to an old lady a few days ago she said to me you are rare individual + thanked me. Wish that common courtesy + good manners were commonplace + hope one day soon that it will be, too! Am not preaching to the converted- those whom are already polite/know good etiquette, just speaking out to those who do not say please or thank you + hopefully will prompt at least one individual here to change their ways, hopefully.
;-) Warm wishes to you all, Bea :-)
Nice to know I speak sense occasionally! :-D

rinkins, por cierto, of course :-) Bless you- Dios te bendiga!
Abrazos, hugs, Bea :-) Have a wonderful Monday rinkins
Gracias Bea, you too! (Spanish is a bit rusty I'm afraid!)
I have also noticed that some people are posting the same clues as ones that have been posted only hours before looking for the same answers...that's a bit silly now isn't it?!
That's because they can't be bothered to look. Fair enough if something has been asked even the day before, but it doesn't take much to scroll down a few pages to see if a question has been asked the same day.
I also think it's sad when someone says they have answered everything bar one or two clues and when asked for help for an answer nothing is forthcoming!
I had got the grumpy hat on earlier because I was directed to a GFQ question sneaked in by a regular but not in Q&P, when I'd only googled 3 key words. It's really annoying.
Someone who never gives answers and never says please or thankyou.
It's down to us NOT to reply.
