There are too many variables to give an accurate quote as the nature of the injury/illness and the level of medical care during the transfer has to be taken into account. Could the patient travel on ascheduled flight or would a chartered jet be required.
A recent case in our local paper of someone injured in the USA for example resulted in a medical repatriation which cost 25,000. This did not take into account medical costs already accrued in the US.
This article gives some figures but I don't know how accurate they are.
thank you for your quick response. The injury is Cancer and my mums spine is in bad condition and at risk of breaking due to a lesion in there. The stretcher with a doctor sounds in our budget. How do you go about getting this sorted out?
cheers again
Well I think realistically the first thing to do is get medical advice from your mother's doctors as to her fitness to fly. You may also find that the airlines are reluctant to carry her with such serious conditions.
Maybe you should contact a repatriation company such as this one I found. Maybe someone else on AB can offer suggestions based on personal experience
Thanks
I phoned them and they are going to give me a quote. It would be accompanied first class. If anybody else got any thing to add it would be greatly appreciated.
hi poltergeist, that is expensive!
i would also check that your mum would be entitled to medical care here as well if i were yu - even if she is a british citizen, if she has been away for a while she might not be entitled to hospital care or primary care (gp) here, especially if she has lved away for some years In anycase, if she dosent have a gp here already, she wont be able to register in advance, and will have to wait to get here to even register
Are there any alternatives for her where she is, its sounds like travelling will be extremely difficult for her ( I'm not thinking of the financial cost here, but the problems healthwise of the journey).
She sounds very poorly, she may have thought about this herself and decided what she wants
