Problem hair
18 Answers
Has anyone had problems with their hair falling out sometime in their life?
I still have a good head of hair, but nowadays my hair has been coming out,not in clumps, but strands.
I wonder if it's something to do with either not washing my hair enough,or with the common congested cold which I have got (which involves headaches).I've had a cold for about a week now.
I wash my hair about every 3 or 4 days.If I pull my hair(not too hard),I have at least a strand or two/three of hair in my hand.
Is this normal,or should I be worried?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.......

hypo (under activation) of the thyroid and hyper (over activation) of the thyroid. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
You dont feel any pain but could end up sluggish, and depressed with the first one, and hyperT is when you are moving around all the time..(as in hyper) and weight loss can result. A tyroxine tablet taken every day can help with this imbalance. Also a simple blood test at the doctors can either prove or eliminate this.
Maybe do a google check to read more about it.
chances are you are not affected, it was just something that crossed my mind.

I am truly grateful for your advice Silkcut.
You are most kind, and really helpful.
My brother is a GP,and I will most definitely have a word with him about it.I have even printed out this thread just to show him (your advice) and that other people are thinking about me.
I just thought that would be a nice gesture.
So many thanks once again.

Aww...it's perfectly normal to lose quite a few strands of hair per day, but if it's got noticeably worse just recently, do as the others've said and ask your doctor for a blood test to determine thyroid activity.
Then again hun - perhaps it's just a normal process, and a hereditary thinning of your hair. I doubt very much that it's due to washing or under-washing it. In fact, the action of rubbing your scalp can be good for you.

Shot in the dark. I'm male and of course have lost a lot of my hair. This has improved though since I read that rinsing a strong mix of coffee through the hair helps strengthen the roots. Use a normal shampoo after to get rid of the smell!!
I notice that Boots now sell a caffeine shampoo. It may work for you if you are worried.
