Anyone got any tips for getting my moggy to start using outside to do the loo? we've just moved into new house 3 weeks ago, and since then he has only been using the litter tray, even immediately after being outside for hours- the little scamp!! I understand it might be because he hasn't found a suitable latrine yet...but does anyone have any tips for getting him to use outside? ta
My thick ginger cat William, who is now 12 sits in the garden quite happily all day and will wee out there, but comes in for a poo!! Bless his heart, he is almost totally blind (has been since birth) so I can't get cross with him! Once puss gets more confident in his new surroundings, I suspect he will perform outside! x
Move the tray closer to the door gradually, then outside, then where you want him / her to use.
Then leave till too dirty for cat to want to use.
This is assuming that you want to lose the litter tray completely.
Do you have a cat flap so cat has 24 hour access?
no cat flap, so am gonna have to leave litter tray in house anyway. just want the little beggar to stop pooing in the house!! thanks for help silly moo
I'd agree with sill moo and say move the tray outside.
After he has been using it regularly he'll be OK.
Very few animals defecate at night, so you are probably pretty safe.
Have you worked out when he goes? You could ensure he was outside at that time of day.
Try putting a litter tray outside in a sheltered spot? It could be that your cat hasn't found anywhere appropriate outside yet, or maybe something scared him when he was outside and he feels safer going inside!
