i don't really have any details but there was a photographer, i think female, who used to take photos of people who were holding up signs saying their true feelings- things that they didn't want to tell people.

does anyone know her name?
thanks

Brit photographer from the 90's.
I know exactly who you mean! Exactly, that is, apart from her name. And I don't know how to go about finding out!
I'll keep trying though...

The project you're thinking of, was that say fifteen years or so ago? I remember something like it but in the project I'm trying to recall she didn't necessarily ask for secrets, it was more like "what thoughts went through your head the moment before I stopped you here in the street". The reply signs those people wrote and held up for the camera would say anything from "my feet really hurt" to well, to secrets, I suppose.

There have been several similar projects since, for instance The Thought Project by Danish Simon Hgsberg. Also, there's another, ongoing project called Post Secret - it's not what you described but might still be of interest. Click the pointing hand for the latest postcards.
LOL @ "exactly, apart from her name" - that's how I feel too!

I think it was around 15 years ago but I'm not exactly sure.
The one that stuck out for me is the man with the sign saying "I'm desperate"

Thanks a lot they are both really interesting, I like the way the though project is more focused on the words more than the photos. But I also like the idea of the anonymous postcards.

Thanks again,
Gillian Wearing! You're probably right many of the signs were quite "revealing". Can't seem to find a whole lot of them online but check Tate out. Thanks for reminding me of this, I've found myself thinking about that project now and then over the years. It was your recollection of the desperate-sign that made it possible for me find her name.

Well done swedeheart!
Thanks sg! See you at the next "I know exactly who it is, just not the name"-stop - my life is full of'em, how about yours...
