italian men and jealousy

Can someone explain the jealousy that italian men have in relationships to me? Is it a matter of pride, or is it about what people think? Most I have come accross don't even let their girlfriends talk to other men without their permission!

Oh god don't get me started! My dad is italian and boy was he possisive and jealous over his girlfriend and his 4 daughters, am suprised he didn't give himself a heart attack! Seriously tho whenever we've been to Italy I have noticed the men are very protective of women. my cousin (female) goes to an all female gym only for example because her husband would get jealous otherwise. I'm married to an english guy who thankfully is very laid back about that sort of thing, to him the gym is the gym whoever attends!

i don't know about italian men... but i can assure you that the degree of jealousy you experienced is not just with italian guys.  i would say a very high percentage of english men are just the same - my ex for one!!! i had 20 years of it - and would warn anyone to steer clear of starting/continuing a relationship with someone who is jealous.  it will only get worse as each year passes. trust me - you will lose your identity, friends, self worth, and worse!!

I believe this is called "Madonna-***** complex" ie the idea that every woman is either a pure untouched Madonna or a promiscuous *****, and there is nothing in between.
