How do you affix spar dash (chip) onto exterior motar
of a house normally?

It is flicked into the applied render surface with a trowel.

Thanks for someone who has given a sensible answer.
It is an old house and just needs touching up in some areas where it has fallen off the motar/rendering and some ares where a window has been fitted that is solid motar.
I was thinking PVA glue as it dries clear?

Are you considering sticking each individual piece onto the mortar using PVA glue ?
This is what your answer seems to imply.

If so, it won't work.

Spar dash is thrown, 'dashed', into the wet render, this is what causes it to stick as it is embedded into the surface.

Obvioulsy I would paint the area with PVA glue and throw
the spar dash in small sprinkles onto the affected areas

It really isn't possible to patch pebble dashing ...... as Hatless rightly said, it has to be "thrown" at newly applied render. Try cutting out the render on the affected areas, then put on a coat of new render, then throw the pebbles onto it ........... easy to say, but god knows how it'll come out ............... but worth a shot :o)
