Does anyone know what time it gets cheaper to travel in the mornings, i.e. from southampton to london waterloo, is it after 8:20 , 8:30 or 8:40 etc?? I have to get to London before 10am but don't want to spend a fortune!

im sure somebody will be along to tell you exactly soon, but in the meantime i was always under the impression that cheap day tickets can be bought for trains that arrive att their londn destination AFTER 10 am
The 0835 is the first train from Southampton on which cheap day returns are valid. It arrives after 1000
it's not what time the train leaves but what time it arrives in London. From Newcastle you have to arrive in London after 11.00am so if you have to be there before 10.00am you probably won't be able to use off peak
